Kevin introduced Jeff Koehn, DNR, whose main assignment is off highway enforcement. Jeff brought us up to date on Forest Classification and talked briefly on the progress of the 70 mile trail additions. He was most interested in talking to us about the new Ambassador Program. This is a volunteer program that provides grant funds back to the individual clubs whose members go out and cover trails where problems may exist, whether trail damage from misuse, brush, etc., or heavy traffic areas on weekends, to hand out information or respond to the publics’ questions. Ambassadors cannot stop trail users, but can only report incidents. The program is restrictive - volunteers must go out in pairs and must go to assigned areas which include state forests/trails and grant-in-aid trails. The Ambassador Training is quite intensive and is currently offered only at Camp Ripley.
Jeff also talked about OHV seasons. This is in response to conflict with other user groups, i.e., snowmobilers, hunters, and other outdoorsmen/women. More to come on this issue.
Jeff thanked the club for inviting him to a meeting. He said he was also impressed with Evergreen PACs progress and commitment to the sport and the number of members involved. Mike invited him down to ride the Soo Pit at a later date..
There were no bills presented for payment. Frank did attend the conference at Cragens. Rita to contact ATVAM for the amount, which will be paid as soon as we get confirmation.
ATV Youth Training Dates - White Pine April 12; Tamarack May 3. Rita is waiting for call back from Kelly Lake, hoping for a later Saturday in April. Instructors will help out in areas needed. There are several members of White Pine and some from our club that wish to become instructors. Rita will be in contact with Shelly Patten to set up a session. We are hoping for a central location to attract more participants. . Notification will be out as soon as something is scheduled.
Kevin reminded members about the ATVAM parade in Silver Bay in June and the Fair May 3 & 4, and Fall convention in Onamia in September. Also, Aitkin County Fair ATV pull on July 12.
Tentative Trail Dedication and Ride Turnock Loop in May, to be scheduled later as weather permits.
Bring ideas for new trail project to next meeting, April 3 at Lawler.
Motion to adjourn by Earl, second by Al. Carried.
Respectfully submitted by Rita Butterfield
