Meeting Minutes

Present: Earl Romnes, Al Rinta,, Stan & Judy Davis, Dawn & Phil Lippo, Leo Dahlberg, John DeMaster, Jerry Stone, Dean Tegland, Mike Freiberg, Pete Seelen, Frank & Darlene Turnock, Darwin & Grace Chester, Jim Gassert, Roger Olson, Lenny Kroska,  Rita Butterfield and new members, Kevin Davis and Lola Schliauter.

Motion by Frank second by Darwin to approve minutes of May 1 as written.  Carried.

Motion by Darwin second by Lenny to approve treasurer’s report.  Carried.

-Bills presented for payment:

  • Kangas Enterprise-pump satellite                              $ 30.00                             
  • Northland Connect - internet (auto pay June 10)      $ 84.90

Motion by Darwin second by Mike to approve bills as presented  with the exception of Kangas Enterprise.  Add $200 to cover fuel cost for work done on trail in May.  Carried
Motion by Frank, second by Jerry, to send thank you letter and complimentary club membership to Jerry Farley for donating his time (equip operator) for trail maintenance.  Carried.

-Frank thanked all club volunteers who went out to help on trail prior to dedication ride on May 16.  We got good press coverage from Aitkin Independent Age, Voyager Press, articles coming out in MN Off Road Magazine and Mpls Star Tribune, publication dates unknown at this time.  Frank noted that a few more signs are needed along the trail.

-Jim mention the DNR has contacted him regarding ATVs using snowmobile trail from ML Motel down past Police/Fire Station.  This is part of the City Park System Trails.  More signs are needed to “Stay on Pavement”.

-Update on 70 mile Trail Next meeting is June 29 at Long Lake Center at Palisade.

-Soo Pit Parking Lot - The original plan was for parking at the Soo Line Depot in Moose Lake.  Area residents are unhappy with noise and dust.  A new parking lot has been constructed on Hallgren Road, east of the entrance to Soo Pit.  Signs will be posted.

- Dean showed pictures of the garbage clean up done on May 8. 

-Fond du Lac Forest linking trail - tabled to future meeting.

-Trail Grading - Has been done once.  Trails in good shape.  Motion by Mike second by Dean to have trail graded 4 times during season with one final grading before winter.  Carried.

-Youth Training - Rita thanked all who have been helping with youth training classes.  To date, have had 4 classes within 5 weeks, another scheduled for June 21 at Willow River.  57 kids have been certified (this includes McGrath, Tamarack and Barnum).  Total cost to date to the club has been $1,115.03 (food, postage, ATVAM memberships).  Motion by Frank, second by Pete, to provide lunch and ATVAM memberships for upcoming class.  Carried.

-Trail ride scheduled for Saturday June 7 changed to Sunday June 8.  Meet Duquette at 1000am, bring own lunches, eat at campground.  Trail stickers are needed for WI, will not go that far.  Jerry will pick up stickers for anyone that wants them as he is in that area frequently. $18/yr.           

-Pete has the ATVAM 50/50 tickets.   300 - 400 will be put aside for sale at County Fair. 

-Remember to record and turn in work logs.

-Dates to remember: Aitkin Co Fair ATV Pull - July 12   Silver Bay Parade June 14.

                              Letter from Kansas Club regarding riding area

-Spring Fever Days, Darwin can use trailer  from ML Implement if needed.  Motion by Earl second by Lenny to order 2 banners from Image Design to include club name, website and email addresses and contact phone number, at approximate cost of $400.  Carried.

-Jim brought up subject of county perhaps authorizing ATV travel on certain County roads.  This was initially approached by Scott Staples at one of the training sessions.  Members to think more about this until next meeting.  Bring ideas/suggestions for discussion. 

-Next meeting at Denham Run, changed to July 10 due to holiday.

Motion by Phil second by Mike to adjourn.  Carried.
