Meeting Minutes
Cromwell Pavilion
December 6, 2007
7:00 p.m.
Present: Orv Evensen, Al Rinta, Stan & Judy Davis, Mel Johnson, Earl Romnes, Phil & Dawn Lippo, Mel Johnson, Leo Dahlberg, Mike Freiberg, Harvey Ukura, Dick Huhta, Roger Olson, Kevin Turnock, Frank Turnock, Jim Gassert and Rita Butterfield. Guests were Greg Bernu, Carlton County Land Commissioner, and Ted Pihlman, Carlton County Commissioner.
Minutes from November 1 were distributed. Motion by Dawn, second by Leo, to approve. Carried.

Election of Officers - Current Officers are:
Co Chair - (2) Jim Gassert and Frank Turnock
Vice Chair - (2) Jack Kop and Kevin Turnock
Secretary/Treasurer - (1) Rita Butterfield
Director (term ending) - Orv Evensen
Motion by Mel, second by Dick to re-elect officers as are currently serving. Carried by unanimous decision.
Greg Bernu and Ted Pihlman were introduced to the group. Greg gave an overview of his past employment and his plan for the county’s continued involvement with ATVs, trails, etc., within Carlton County. He was impressed with our activities and involvement with grants, trails, and Soo Pit improvements. Ted talked briefly on the county’s initial purchase of the Soo Line rail grade, the Soo Pit, and other property. Both were available for questions/answers. Motion by Mike, second by Dick to give Greg and his family a yearly membership in the club. Carried.
Discussion on the meeting of November 28 at McGregor. Most people present were in favor of the 70-mile trail project. Need continued support from members. Pages were provided for individual comments to be mailed in. Motion by Kevin second by Mike for club to mail a letter as well. Carried. Rita will do this.
Trails/Grants - Our grant capped at $20,000. No more dollars available until next grant period. Jim raised request to $28,900 because of increased expense of grading Soo Line.
Thank you to Dick, Phil, and Tom Johnson for opening the community center and providing coffee, etc. It is greatly appreciated.
Kathy Larson, CO from Cloquet has retired. We’ll have the name of her replacement at next meeting.
Christmas Party will be January 12. Each person attending is to bring a $10 - $12 gift for exchange. Russ Dahl or his daughter will be providing the meal. Soda is available, BYOB if you want something else. Sign up with Jim for party and remind others not present to do so as well. Russ needs number by mid-Dec.
Next meeting will be February 7 at Jackson’s Hole, Lawler. No January meeting due to Christmas party.
