Evergreen
P.A.C. ATV Club
Meeting Minutes
Cromwell Pavilion
February 3, 2005
7:00 - 8:15 pm
Present: Jim Gassert, Orv Evensen, Lenny Kroska,
Dick Huhta, Leo Dahlberg, Darwin Chester, Jack & Cheryl Kop,(Jim
has complete list on Yellow Tablet)
Because of Rita's absence due to illness, there were no minutes
of last meeting and no Treasurer's Report, however Jim Gassert
read the current balance of $2974.97.
OLD BUSINESS
-Our Club Christmas Party last month was terrific!
Thanks to Dick & Elaine
Huhta who made arrangements and paid for the Mr. Morgan entertainment.
-Bills: Only two bills to pay: Blame Schatz will wait for payment
of his cat work on the Soo Pits until we receive grant payment
from the State. Web site domain is $250 per year to be paid to
Terry.
-Collecting Grant money is as frustrating as submitting
and resubmitting the Grants themselves. Grants for the two projects
have been submitted (Soo Line and Carlton County's share of the
Soo Pits). Grants are kicked back because of slightly documented
administrative fees and because there weren't enough bids on
cat work (contractors didn't want to bid because it was so late
in their season), so Jim obtained documentation from two other
contractors and re-submitted.
-Willow River has requested help
on trails through their town; we have summary of City Ordinances.
When the first grant money comes through we can get bids on signage
for going through Moose Lake. Grants can include maps.
NEW BUSINESS
-Sign(s) for Soo Pits: "SOO PITS RIDING AREA in cooperation
with Evergreen PAC ATV Club, Canton County & Minnesota DNR.
Open April 1 to October 31."
-Jim is taking all tax/financial
information to H & R Block; with 501C tax status, there should
be little or no tax to be paid. -Membership trading: Phil & Dawn
Lippo inquired about swapping memberships between clubs; we all
agree that it is an excellent idea. (No money changes hands; it
just increases membership numbers on both clubs). Higher membership
numbers gives more muscle when lobbying in St. Paul).
-Club consists
of two co-chairs, 1 vice chair, 1 treasurer, 3 executive board
members. E-Board meetings have been held on the last Thursday
of the month, but lately holding them a half hours or so prior
to the regular club meetings on the first Thursday of the month
would work out better for the E-Board members as well as all members
who would like to be involved in this pre-meeting information.
Bi-laws will need to be changed. Dick Huhta: motion to change,
Jack Kop: second, all in favor.
-Web Site: Our club web site is excellent. Any comments, suggestions,
additional information you feel would be useful or interesting,
please let Terry the Web Master know.
-Rick Jennissen does Youth
Club Training. There is a lot of equipment (cones, logs, ramps,
etc.) that is kept at the new Carlton County garage. They need
a trailer (about 8'X10 , like a 2-place snowmobile trailer with
sides), so if anyone has an old one to donate or for cheap, let
us know. Mel Johnson said the Snow Flyers Club may be able to donate
at least something toward a trailer, because of the importance
of training young people.
-Discussed the Mpls Star Trib articles
on John Marty/Theissen making false statements regarding ATV's
being ticketed for damaging wetlands and other property. Jim read
the number of tickets issued by the MN DNR and what they were for,
which proves their allegations are false. -Discussed Duluth News
Trib articles on Beltrami, Roseau and Koochiching counties prohibiting
DNR vehicles on trails except with a special permit.
-There is
no sign on the Carlton/Aitkin county line of the Soo Line-leave
it alone. -With Kevin Arends being excused from the DNR, we hope
that a "pro-motor person" fills that position which is
now posted.
-For the April 7 meeting, Mel Johnson will line up
a representative from the Tamarack/MacGregor area; a conservation
officer or Brent from Sheriffs department for questions and answers.
This has proven to be very informative in the past with Kathy
Larson and Scott Staples.
-Dick Huhta said Becky Lourey will be
at Cromwell Pavillion on February 11 from 4 pm to 5 pm.
-Jim will fax Dick
Huhta the letter he sent to Cass County.
Darwin motion to adjourn. Orv second the motion.
