Jim introduced Joe Russell, DNR Trails and Waterways
Division. Joe brought us up to date on the new
signing program going on in the State Forests. General
Andrews, Chengwatanah, Nemadji, St Croix and Fond du
Lac will be completed within a year. He handed
out copies of new sign manual with descriptions of
new signs. Signs with red circles and diagonal
slashes prohibiting certain usage are outdated and
will be replaced with signs showing Permitted Motorized
Uses followed by icons. These will be on every
trail, at every intersection of trails, and, hopefully,
leave no doubt as to what use is permitted. Trail
repair will be done to handle usage.
Joe also talked of a project at General Andrews he
would like club help with. This is an Educational
Weekend, planned for late April, where club members,
DNR staff, law enforcement, etc., would be on hand
to provide literature, information, and basically,
just be on hand for anything that might be needed. There
will be a kiosk in the parking lot with maps and other
area info. Dago Lake Road is a township road
and 4-wheelers can ride the pavement if desired. Another
project is to find people who are willing to go through
the forest and come up with names for all the major
trails. Jim is going to talk to some folks
who live right close to the forest, they may be interested
in this.
The club has received bills from
Kosa Construction - $960 for grading trails; and from Tony Sundholm for
bridge construction $400. Motion by Jack second
by Orv to pay. Carried.
Discussion on ATV Alliance and
Master Plan Meeting. By
February, lets get things in order and get started
with this.
Grant updates -. Newest grant ready to submit,
all labor included, anything outstanding get to Jim
right away. More dollars coming from 2005 grant
coming from the County, should have very soon.
Publicity for membership drive running in local papers.
Current members to contact previous business sponsors
to renew support to club.
Christmas dinner - In appreciation of DNR staff, County
Auditor and Aitkin Co Land Commissioner, the club will
invite Joe Russell and Joe Alberio and their guests,
Paul Gassert and guest and Mark Jacobs and guests,
to attend the Christmas dinner.
Past discussion has been held regarding the club treasury
pay for the Christmas dinner rather than have club
members pay. All the hard work done by club members
is the reason we have some grant money available. Motion
by Dick second by Jack to pay the dinner with club
funds. Carried. Each family to bring one $10
gift.
Correspondence included a letter from ATVAM stating
that memberships will increase in January to $20/year.
Turnock Trail - will wait until March to view area.
Motion by Jack second by Leo to adjourn. Carried. Adjourned
at 8:30 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
Rita Butterfield
