Old Business:
1) Grants - Maintenance - Have started grading, Pine Co to Moose
Lake to date. Hwy Maintenance Supervisor assures it will be done.
Soo Pit Grant - signatures by County, sent back to State for
finalization. Will hold off on work crews until July meeting.
Len Hardy encouraged members to keep a log of everything we do-
phone calls, mileage, special meetings, etc. This can all be
charged back to the grant. County officials do not want gates
at the Pit at this time. There are multiple uses there. We will
pursue signs and posts, Orv will check with DNR, Dick states
all signs are printed now in Grand Rapids. Will need all the
standard signs - arrows, stop, stay-on-trail, etc. Darwin to
locate sign posts.
2) County Fair - “E” Board
recommends we go to the Fair. Jim and Moose Lake Implement will
donate the space to the club. Members will need to staff at regular
intervals, hope to have DNR officials, ATVAM has materials we
can use, hope to have 50/50 tickets available yet for sale (Orv
to check with Cheryl at ATVAM office), and of course recruit
new members. Darwin, Rita and Orv to work on this project, everyone
else is welcome. This will require commitment on the part of
members. We need to cover daily, 5:00 to 9:00pm on Thursday,
12N to 9:00 Fri and Sat and from 12N to at least 7:00pm Sun.
Dates are Aug 19 thru 22.
New Business -
1) Elections will be held at the July 8 meeting.
2) Larry Gelaneau from the McGregor Club has planned to stop and
visit with Jim soon to compare notes.
3) Legislative update - Wetlands Issue - Effective
July 1, ATVs will be treated the same as any other vehicle in/on
wetlands - you do the damage, you do the repair. Becky Lourey
gave us a run-down on what had happened (or didn’t) at the State. Len stated,
as of right now, there are 1106 miles of grant-in-aid trails in
the State. Jerry and Darwin will get together to write a letter
encouraging “managed” status of state forest trails.
4) Jim has letter regarding test riding in the Superior National
Forest. Anyone interested can contact Ron Potter at the DNR.
This will take place June 17 though the 23rd.
5) There is a trail ride at Outing on June 5 - trail opening.
6) Club rides - Wait until fall. Have a ride from Denham to Soo
Pit and a ride in Nemadji Forest. More planning at a later meeting.
7) Spring Fever Days - Barnum June 12. Anyone interested in riding
meet at the Fairgrounds.
Motion by Jerry, second by Darwin to adjourn. Meeting adjourned
8:30pm.
